HOW TO EFFECTIVELY USE THE OSPE CAREER CENTRE

Welcome to the Internationally Trained Engineers (ITEs) page of OSPE! Did you know that OSPE typically has between 50 and 100 job postings at any one time? As an Associate or Intern member of OSPE, you have full access to our job posting site and company directory.

You can use our Career Services as a tool to learn more about what skills companies look for when hiring and also by viewing our company directory, you can easily link to their specific web site to see if any additional jobs are there! Also check out our Professional Development courses and programs as we have many that appeal to or are exclusively for ITEs.

By clicking on the job posting link, you will see a list of jobs currently available in a wide range of companies from all across Canada. You will note that most jobs are for mid to senior level positions, many of which require a P.Eng. This is because normally companies only pay to post jobs for more senior level positions as they would get too many resumes for lower level jobs! But, don't let this discourage you and it doesn't mean you shouldn't read all of them!

WHY?

Your degree counts for a lot - most employers are satisfied with your engineering knowledge regardless of where you attained your degree. (You still may need to show your equivalency assessment to demonstrate this, but that is standard procedure.) But, even if they recognize you have strong engineering skills and knowledge, there may be hundreds or thousands of applications. You will need to show them something that sets you apart from all the other resumes and cover letters!

HOW?

Read and analyze all the engineering jobs out there and think about what you have to offer which relate to the skill sets companies are looking for. So, take a look at our job postings and:
  • Realize that the skill sets which companies look for usually are similar across all levels - what companies seek in positions requiring a P.Eng. are usually what they want for new hires without a P.Eng. as well
  • Look for trends and key skills, especially those that are unique
  • Analyze what companies are looking for and who is posting what, then
  • Look at our company directory and click onto an actual company web site - this is where it is more likely you will find a range of jobs which you may be interested in. OSPE has thousands of companies in our directory, some of which you may never have heard of!
